The Estate’s History

Boconnion has been home to generations of Cornish families for hundreds of years

An ancient Saxon manor

It is known that the Manor of Boconnion passed from the Caryhayes family to the InkPenne family in the 13th Century. The rich tapestry of their history lives throughout the house, outbuildings, gardens and woodland. More recent residents still have their names written on the beams above their mangers in the old cowshed.

It is believed that Boconnion was an ancient manor from Saxon times and is mentioned under the name of Bot Chono Am in the Exeter Domesday book and Botoconoan in the Exchequer Book. Boconnion House dates in part from the 17th Century with the principal accommodation being built in the Georgian era.

Owner Rob Kendall has deep connections to Cornwall, being half-Cornish himself, and when he fell upon the beautiful estate in 2006, he was filled with inspiration. Rob started an ambitious renovation project to bring the Georgian house and grounds back to their former glory. His dream was to share this stunning location with others, and once again fill the house with happiness, families and laughter.

Rob's passion for Boconnion, its history and surroundings is evident. His keen eye for detail and interior design skills have allowed him to create a place that is luxurious yet homely, honouring traditional styles but adding every modern comfort. Find out more about the team at Boconnion.

“We were looking for a relaxed venue that catered for all our guests for the entire weekend. The grounds and living areas are exceptional and we loved it.”
