Winter Weddings in Cornwall: Christmas Weddings at Boconnion

Whilst summer and early autumn often take the seasonal spotlight for sunny weddings, we think that there’s something magical about winter weddings in Cornwall. Cosying up indoors with your nearest and dearest, the hint of sparkling frost on the grass, roaring fires and twinkling Christmas lights make for a winter wonderland wedding day. Not to mention the fashion; plenty of sequins, stunning furs, stylish hats, soft coats and merino scarves and gloves. There’s nothing quite as classy as a Christmas wedding at Boconnion. Read on for winter wedding inspiration during the colder months.

Why do we love winters wedding in Cornwall?

In this blog you’ll find some of our reasons to favour a winter wedding in Cornwall. Christmas is always a magical time, and coupled with saying ‘I do’ to the love of your life makes it all the more memorable. Beautiful Boconnion is the perfect place to celebrate with your family and friends, explore the stunning Cornish countryside and afterwards shelter from the elements in front of the roaring fire with a glass of red wine in hand. Break away from the traditional summer weddings by planning a sparkling, frosty day that you and your guests will remember forever.

Winter wonderland style and decorations

It’s the season for sparkles! We love seeing Boconnion brides opting for sequins, soft fur coats and white feathers, whilst grooms and groomsmen don thick, classic tweed suits and boots.

Winter wedding decorations can also be very different to normal summer weddings. Dreaming of sparkling fairy lights throughout the grounds, giant cream baubles hanging in the windows, pampas grass framing the fire places, candles in every alcove and pretty paper chains hanging from the beams of our reception barn? Work with one of our recommended stylists to create the perfect, winter wonderland theme. We also work with a talented group of florists that can create gorgeous wreaths for the tables and doors, a classic British winter bouquet (white roses please!) and floral arches to frame the entrances to the Manor House, Barton and Reception Barn.

Warming food and drinks

We work with a variety of delicious, local caterers who are on-hand to bring your dining dreams to life. We love the idea of winter food to match a winter wedding, and many of our recommended suppliers work with seasonal produce to bring you the freshest and tastiest treats. Why not opt for a beautiful banquet to compliment your winter wedding in Cornwall? Mouth-watering, slow roasted, free range meats and fish, accompanied by roasted Cornish potatoes, buttery carrots and seasonal sides, all spread across long tables lined with candles and your favourite people, helping themselves from sharing platters.

When it comes to the drinks, we love the idea of mulled wine, baileys, local ales and sparkling champagne to get everyone in the Christmas spirit. You could even design your own festive cocktails with the help of our talented mixologists and bar tenders, who you’ll find on our recommended suppliers list too.

Boconnion suits the cold months

Boconnion lends itself beautifully to the winter months, with the option for weddings inside the Georgian Manor House where you can light the roaring open fires, swathe yourselves in blankets and sink into the luxurious sofas and window seats throughout the house. Is there a cosier feeling than sipping a glass of mulled wine or hot coffee overlooking the frozen Cornish countryside?

When you’re not warming yourself by the Aga, sinking into a giant, steaming bubble bath in the bridal suite or playing the piano overlooking the moors and forests, there are woodland walks and rolling gardens to wander amongst within the grounds. We love crisp, cold days in Cornwall when they are accompanied by blue skies and winter sunshine and followed by full moons and spectacular starry nights. Light the fire pit, warm up the Swedish hot tub and immerse yourself in the elements.

Better on a budget

Winter weddings don’t just offer the possibility of snow and gorgeous Christmas decorations, but it can also be cheaper to get married when it’s not peak season (April to October, excluding Christmas and New Years). If you’re planning your wedding on a budget and have your heart set on Boconnion, it costs less to get married in January, February, March, November and December. You’re also more likely to score your ideal date as there may be less competition than summer weekend wedding dates.

There’s loads to do

Based in beautiful Cornwall, one of the most popular wedding locations ever, we pride ourselves on being surrounded by countryside, yet close to so many things to do. There are beautiful beaches such as Polzeath and Trebarwith, less than half an hour away, the wild and romantic moors where you can watch the starling murmurations throughout winter, Michelin star eateries such as Paul Ainsworth’s No. 6 in Padstow and fresh seafood restaurants such as the infamous Prawn on the Lawn and renowned Rick Stein’s.

If you’re looking for more energetic activities to entertain you and your guests over the weekend we recommend cycling the Camel Trail from Bodmin to Padstow, exploring the gorgeous grounds at Lanhydrock and cold water dips at Daymer Bay.

You might have a white wedding!

Is anything more romantic than snow? Fingers crossed those fluffy, white flakes will make an appearance on your wedding day! We can’t think of a more magical place to be snowed in…
